Black + Single Accent
“One color. Pure focus.”
Founded by The Browser Company (Arc), Raycast · Arc browser, Raycast, Linear
Philosophy
Pure black and white. One accent color, used sparingly. The accent marks the thing that matters. Nothing else competes.
The Story
Black + Single Accent is a subset of Dark Mode + Accent with an even stricter constraint: only one color is allowed beyond black and white. Arc browser built its entire brand identity around a single coral-red accent color that appears on exactly the interactive elements — active tabs, selections, and CTAs — and nowhere else. The effect is remarkable focus. When there is only one color, the eye has nowhere else to look. The constraint is difficult to maintain at scale — product teams constantly want to add accent colors for different states and categories. The designers who make this work enforce it ruthlessly: one accent, one meaning, everywhere or nowhere. Violations feel immediately wrong.
